White beauty!

The mesmerising fragrance, the pure white colour and its strong hold on our culture for many decades make it extra special. We never miss it during marriages, festivals and religious ceremonies. Yesss! It is Jasmine! The Queen of Flowers is my favourite daily wear.

What makes it special, well, everything! India's flower business depends on the ladies who wake up early to collect the fresh flower produce and have dedicated generations to the trade despite reaping few benefits in return.

No marriage or festival in South India is complete without Jasmine. Jasmine is related to Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, and it is known to alleviate stress.

The village of Thangachimadam, Ramanathapuram, produces Madurai Jasmine saplings(Madurai Malli), which are collected by Jasmine growers from states such as Karnataka and Maharashtra. A business which mostly depends on women’s labour and for which the end users are also women is indeed a beauty in itself.

Flowers like pure white Jasmine are a culturally significant accessory in many parts of the world.  Maybe one day, Jasmine will be worn by women every day to enhance their appearance and for its therapeutic benefits.

The colour white is purity, peace and innocence. It gives a feeling of tranquillity. Being around flowers can give a soothing feeling, reduce stress and have a positive impact on our mental well-being. Why not make it our signature look, ladies! Let's become the women in White 😉

Jasmine, The White Beauty with its strong fragrance and beautiful white colour, will continue to amaze us, and it will always have a special place in Indian culture and our hearts.
