Unapologetically Me

Lakme' launched their  #UnapologeticallyMé campaign earlier this year to celebrate women who unapologetically embrace fashion and beauty.  The campaign had mixed reactions.

When a woman prioritize beauty, the society looks down on them and treats them with disrespect. Bold may look different for everyone right. Bold doesn't mean vulgar or extreme. It means doing things you love with confidence.

The Instagram hashtag #bodypositivity created more awareness than ever and it felt like a relief really to be "You' and not what others want you to be. Being comfortable in your own skin is a gift. We don't have to be sorry for who we are as long as we don't hurt others in our actions or inactions. We should stop saying sorry often unless it was somehow our fault. It is a big word and our words matter. If we keep saying sorry for everything the word will lose its meaning.

Body-positive model and author Charli Howard's book 'Misfit' is a must read for all aspiring models and especially women who think they are just not perfect. There is no such thing as normal. Charli says "Happiness is being confident and being self-aware enough to accept you will be fine if someone doesn't like you". Many women always feel they are never pretty enough, never good enough but does it really matter? What we think of ourselves matters more than what others think of us.

Being bold to voice out your opinions does have its cons. But it doesn't mean you should stop doing the right thing and saying what is right. When I started expressing my opinions some people did not like that but I got a lot of friends who were like minded and the friendships that formed after was intense.

Cinderella’s dialogue ‘ I forgive you ‘ at the end to her step mom doesn’t always work in the real world. You can forgive them but can’t keep going through bad experiences every time and forgive the person who makes you feel bad after he/she says sorry. You can’t satisfy everybody in this world. It’s just a thin line between being nice and being a doormat. We just have to find the difference.

We can unapologetically be ourselves and still be nice, polite and bold too.  It all depends on where we draw one line and start another.

A big cheers🥂 to all women and men out there who are unapologetically themselves and who fight for big causes when others just try to fit in . For without them the world will not be this good . Big props to my favorite poet Subramania Bharathi who fought for women’s rights and our country‘s freedom and whose poems still give goosebumps.

According to an article published by The Hindu for Bharathiyar's 102nd death anniversary ,  As a 22-year-old rookie journalist, he wrote to The Hindu: “Is it doubted in any quarter that, in England, a cobbler-boy with necessary merit finds his path clear to the Premiership? And is it not treason in India to believe a Sudra (not to speak of Panchama) with an unparalleled knowledge of Sanskrit scripture and with exceptional goodness and piety can ever aspire to the seat of Sringeri?”. Bharathiyar didn’t care for the cast system 100 years back but cast discrimination still very much exists in India today. How bold and unapologetic he must have felt back then .

Let’s be ourselves , let’s be fearless,  let’s feel powerful, let’s be happy and not be sorry for who we are. Let’s shout out loud and say ‘I love myself and I am unapologetically me always and forever ‘ .😉 I wish you all a Happy new year 2024 lovely readers!  😊
