The influence of English in India

India is the second-largest English-speaking country in the world. English is also an official language in India apart from Hindi.  The British introduced English to Indians a century back when they ruled the country. Today, parents in India want their children to speak English fluently and they see that as pride. Since India is an ethnically diverse country with so many regional languages, English became a common language to connect people. The entry of English in India was not only beneficial for Indians to develop their knowledge about the outside world but also helped the British understand the culture and thought process of an Indian and his family. Learning English was also the reason the Indians were able to get independence from the many decades of British rule.
